Ford vs. RAM: a rivalry that goes on and on
The two most popular trucks in the country are once again fighting it out thanks to these two supercharged versions, namely the 2021 TRX from RAM and the F-150 Raptor from Ford.
But even though few details have filtered out about the Raptor so far, the available information suggests that it will have the upper hand over its rival!
Exterior Features
Based on the current version of the Raptor, we’ll get a truck with a rugged look and a menacing front end, thanks in part to the large FORD lettering on the front grille.
The 2020 version also features large-sized wheels and pronounced wheel arches. There's no doubt that the 2021 vintage will be as, if not more, robust than this one, and that it will have nothing to envy its rival!
Powertrain
The 2021 RAM 1500 TRX features a 702-horsepower V8 engine, making it the toughest truck in its class... but probably not for long! Indeed, there is a rumour—very strong—that the 2021 F-150 Raptor will be more powerful!
How?
By borrowing the powerful 5.2-litre V8 engine housed under the hood of the Mustang GT500, which is rumoured to develop between 725 and 750 horsepower, no less! And while the TRX has an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Raptor, in its 2020 version, benefits from a 10-speed transmission, which should also be found in the 2021 model.
In addition, the current model year of the Raptor offers 6 drive modes—Normal, Sport, Weather, Mud/Sand, Baja and Rock Crawl—while the 1500 TRX offers 4 modes—Normal, Wet/Snow, Off-Road and Baja; chances are that the Ford's 2021 model year will offer the same and will also have the upper hand over its rival in this regard.
4x4 Capabilities
While the 2020 model already offered strong off-road capabilities, the 2021 Raptor will take these performances to the next level and may even supplant the TRX RAM in this area. Indeed, the Raptor features an all-new 5-link rear suspension that will replace the old leaf spring suspension.
You'll enjoy a more comfortable ride as well as a higher ground clearance than the one currently offered.
Interior Features
To date, almost no information has filtered through on the interior features of the 2021 Raptor. However, we do know that the F-150 will be among the first Ford vehicles, along with the Mustang Mach-e and Bronco, to receive the all-new SYNC 4 system. It's therefore a good bet that the Raptor will also feature this new system.
Of course, we can also expect the Raptor to offer as many, if not more, interior features and safety technologies as the 2021 RAM 1500 TRX.
What about the 2021 Raptor's price point?
The price of the 2020 version of the Raptor is $76,699. A version fitted with the GT500's V8 engine can be expected to sell for a higher price. On the RAM side, we're talking about a base price of $93,995.See our current promotions
