SUV Comparison: 2021 Ford Edge vs. 2021 Ford Explorer

SUV Comparison: 2021 Ford Edge vs. 2021 Ford Explorer

With almost 300,000 vehicles sold each year, Ford is the top-selling car manufacturer in Canada. Ford offers a strong line-up filled with affordable sedans, the most popular pickup trucks, and SUVs that have seen improvements year after year. Two of those popular vehicles are the Ford Edge and Ford Explorer. Both are sporty, capable, dependable, and bringing their A game with the newest 2021 models.

2021 Ford Edge

2021 Ford Edge

The Edge is the sportiest of Ford's SUV models in both looks and engine capability. This midsize SUV prioritizes passenger comfort and cargo space over maximum people-hauling. It only offers two rows of seating for five passengers instead of overextending itself with a third row. The 2021 Ford Edge lineup will include several enhancements, including new wheel designs, new colors, acoustic-laminated class, and rear parking sensors. In addition, the infotainment system gets an upgrade to the Sync 4 interface with a 12-inch display.

It is believed that the 2021 Ford Edge will be available in five different model levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, ST-Line, and ST. The SE is expected to be priced around $33,000 and include a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that offers 250 horsepower. This engine provides adequate power for most drivers who want to enjoy the open road and feel stable in all driving situations. The 2021 Ford Edge's interior offers plenty of space to seat four adults comfortably without encroaching on the large cargo area. As for technology, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot come standard across all models, and many driver-assistance features are now standard, including emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

2021 Ford Explorer

The Explorer is a larger midsize SUV in Ford's model lineup, providing three rows of seats as well as plenty of room for hauling cargo. It is a well-rounded three-row SUV that offers a smooth and controlled ride for those wanting a larger vehicle without feeling like they are driving a tank. The 2021 Ford Explorer models will get some minor additions and tweaks when they make their debut, including a new Sport Appearance package. The biggest change is an all-new rear-wheel-drive platform that is standard on all models, but all-wheel drive is still optional. While the exact details are unknown, there will most likely be six different model levels of the 2021 Ford Explorer: Base, XLT, Limited, Limited hybrid, ST, and Platinum.

The Base will be priced around $33,500 and come with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine that provides 300 horsepower and can tow 2400 kg. A 3.0-litre V6 and 3.3-litre V6 engine are also available. The 2021 Ford Explorer offers a comfortable and functional cabin with plenty of space, though the third row is slightly cramped. An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard. Included driver-assist technologies include forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and more.

Choosing the Right Ford SUV

The 2021 Ford Edge and 2021 Ford Explorer are great choices for drivers in Laval, Canada. The biggest difference is the third row of seats provided by the Explorer. If more passenger space is needed, the Explorer is the right choice. However, both SUVs are evenly matched if only two rows are needed. The choice is all yours.
